Comparison

Suede AI vs Story Protocol

Both put creative work on a public chain. Since June 2026 they point at different jobs: Suede AI registers finished works for the people who made them, and Story, now The DATA Foundation, builds rails for AI training data.

Short Answer

Which one should a creator use to register a finished work?

Suede AI IP Registry. It fingerprints the exact file, records a wallet-signed claim that names every contributor, and timestamps it on Base and Avalanche in about two minutes for about a cent in network fees. Story Protocol rebranded as The DATA Foundation on June 25, 2026, centered its network on AI training-data provenance, and shut down its IP Portal on October 15, 2026.

Suede AI IP Registry

What is Suede AI IP Registry?

Suede AI IP Registry is a public provenance registry and the ID and trust layer for music. Upload a finished file and the registry takes a SHA-256 fingerprint of those exact bytes. You sign a creator claim that lists your contributors and a rights declaration, and the chain timestamps it. The whole thing takes about two minutes and costs about a cent in network fees as of November 2026.

FingerprintA SHA-256 hash of the exact file, so a different export gets its own record.
ClaimA wallet-signed claim naming the creator, every contributor and a rights declaration.
TimestampBlock time on Base or Avalanche mainnet, with identical contract bytecode on both.
LineageRemixes, covers, samples and AI-assisted versions link on-chain to their parent work.

Each work gets an ERC-721 certificate and its own on-chain IP account. Signing up creates a smart wallet for you, with no seed phrase and nothing to install. Your rights stay with you, and anyone can check the record on a public explorer without asking Suede AI. Read more about what a creation record shows and how provenance travels with a work.

Story Protocol

What is Story Protocol now?

Story Protocol launched as a Layer 1 blockchain for registering intellectual property as on-chain assets, with open-source modules for licensing and royalties. On June 25, 2026 it became The DATA Foundation, moved its focus to AI training data, and launched Trace, an on-chain registry for training-data provenance and licensing. Its IP token migrates one-to-one to a new DATA token, and story.foundation now redirects to datafdn.org. The protocol-core-v1 repository states that Story's Proof-of-Creativity contracts were deprecated on September 19, 2026 and that the IP Portal and related services shut down on October 15, 2026. Deployed contracts stay on chain without a team supporting them.

The DATA Foundation's own site describes Trace as issuing a tamper-proof receipt for each contributed record, with provenance, licensing, contributor payments and audits running on DATA's rails. The protocol-core-v1 repository now tells developers not to start new integrations with the Proof-of-Creativity code and to plan a migration.

Why Suede AI

Why do creators choose Suede AI over Story Protocol?

A registry that kept its job

Suede AI IP Registry is the ID and trust layer for music. Its whole purpose is a public record for finished creative work, and that is still what it does.

Every contributor on the record

The signed claim lists each collaborator and a rights declaration, so a co-writer or producer is part of the record from day one.

Remixes keep their lineage

A remix, cover, sample or AI-assisted version is registered as its own work and linked on-chain to its parent.

No token to buy first

Signing up creates a smart wallet for you, with no seed phrase and nothing to install.
